Every holiday season, many of our Transferees living inManhattanask the same question: How much should you tip if you live in a building with a doorman? Here are some answers we’ve heard around town.

While tipping is not required, it is recommended and appreciated, especially ahead of the season, when given in early December.

According to a poll conducted by Brick Underground, 65% of owners in doorman buildings spent from $250 to $1000; 37% of renters in similar buildings spent between $250 and $500 in total on tipping.

Here are some general guidelines.
