The late John Lennon’s wife, Yoko Ono, is not giving peace a chance with her landlord.
In 1995, the avant-garde artist/activist purchased an apartment at 49 Downing Street in the West Village for the couple’s son, Sean Lennon. She paid $8.9 million for the 3-bedroom converted horse stable. Ever since he moved out a few years afterward, the 5700-square foot apartment has been vacant.
Ono is suing the property’s co-op board for allegedly having blocked a sale with “arbitrary conditions”.
Although the owner and landlord are currently walking on thin ice, prospective buyers can pick the penthouse up for a relative song, to the tune of only $6.5 million. It features a terrace, greenhouse and rooftop deck. Exposed brick and original wood beams dominate the decor.
